Everything starts with 2 words:
Look at it scientifically. There’s a universe of energy out there – scientists call it simply “information”. Some of it has coalesced into matter – you me, the planets, the stars; some of it flows through us like neutrinos and WIMPs and some permeates us and fills us with motion, potential and light. The energy of a single human body, if released in an instant, would wipe out hundreds of square miles. Yet we use the limited energy given us to build even greater structures and greater beauty.
Believe in the miracle of science.
But science suggests there’s more than we can imagine – dimensions wound around each other in a dance so small we can’t measure it directly. But the dance can be influenced – those dimensions can grow with energy. Or so the theory goes.
Believe there’s more to the universe, not that we have imagined, but more than we can imagine.
Throughout history the greatest accomplishments started with someone saying, “I believe” as in “I believe we can build a pyramid.” or “I believe I can create a masterpiece.” or “I believe we can fly.” Sometimes the theory is proven wrong. That’s not a waste, that’s finding truth. We often learn more from our mistakes than we do the greatest successes.
Discovery starts with a theory: I believe…
You are a wonderful, intelligent, miraculous creation. Life, the initial creation, is a miracle beyond our understanding. Oh, sure we can reproduce the environment but no experiment has ever produced new life. And the continuation of life, the miracle of cell division, has lead to you and me and all we see – the heights of evolution. We imagine and fear and grow and eventually believe, even if only in our own mortality.
Believe in yourself and you can go far. You can make a life for yourself that is comfortable, even luxuriant.
Believe in a higher power – something that sustains you when your run out of strength – and you can reach the stars and beyond.
Just about every religion, every belief system agrees that what you believe is what will come to pass. What you put into the world is what you will get back out many times over. Treat others with love and compassion and you will receive love and compassion. Give money and you will be given money. Deliver hate and remorse and you will be despised and lonely. There’s a certain logic to it, but there’s more that transcends logic, a multiplying factor that rewards or punishes many times over.
Have faith in your belief. Faith is knowing without evidence that your belief is correct.
From where we sit today, there are more goals to reach, more expanding of human awareness than can ever be attempted in a lifetime.
Don’t be timid. Your reach should exceed your grasp. That’s what goals are for. And never give up. You only fail when you stop trying.
I didn’t fail. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.
– Thomas Edison, on creating the light bulb
Never, never, never give up.
– Winston Churchill
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
– Matthew 7:7
Talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see.
– Arthur Schopenhauer
All it takes to succeed is belief that something will happen or something is true and faith enough to sustain your belief in the face of opposition.
