If it’s not obvious, I am transgender. More specifically I suffer from the mental disorder known as Gender Dysphoria. I am also a devout Christian. To many this seems a contradiction. How can you change yourself so much, willingly commit sin after sin and yet call yourself “saved”? That’s exactly what I would like to discuss here. So sit back and hopefully enjoy yourself.
This discussion is vast so I’m breaking it into 4 parts:
Part 1 is an introduction. Here I will define words so we understand each other.
Part 2 will discuss what it means to be transgender.
Part 3 will discuss what the bible says.
Part 4 will be my take on the bible.
So what is “transgender” or “gender dysphoria” or “gender identity disorder” or … or … what are all those odd-ball names? Put simply, gender dysphoria is the current medical term for a stress caused by a mismatch between our body and brain. (Don’t worry, I’ll go into details later.) Many arguments start with, “yes, but…” In my opinion that is a false argument. It starts by agreeing then backtracks to reduce or deny the truth.
For the purposes of this article, “gender” is an adjective that can be applied to many human qualities. In general gender exists as a range from a male to female. Thus our bodies have a gender, our biological gender (sex.) Our identities have a gender. Our expression is often gendered, even when attempting to exhibit traits from other species.
